From it's humble beginnings in 1975, Master Trevor Dicks has grown his Taekwondo organisation, now known as Pacific International Taekwondo into 25 centres of excellence across Brisbane, South-East Queensland and New Zealand.
Master Trevor Dicks has been at the forefront of the Taekwondo movement in Australia. Thousands of students have learnt lifelong skills through his classes with many students becoming Instructors and Senior Instructors themselves.
For Master Dicks and his wife (Snr Inst Margaret) this growth of his organisation has been a journey of discovery, commitment and passion for Taekwondo.
"I remember our Taekwondo lessons in the early years. Snr Inst Margaret and I had returned to England to visit family when we chanced upon a Taekwondo class. We were already martial arts enthusiasts so joined the class for a lesson. From that moment we were hooked.
In 15 years of martial art training I had never experienced such a physical, energetic and dynamic form of martial arts. We were lucky to attend a World Masters display in Scotland around that time and we were amazed at the strength and control that Taekwondo required.
Once we got back to Australia we learnt all we could at that time and eventually moved to Brisbane to open our own martial arts school teaching Taekwondo.
At that time we were pioneers of the art. Now Taekwondo is one of the most popular martial arts in Australia and everyday new people are discovering the benefits of co-ordination, strength, balance and stamina."
Master Dicks is a 7th degree Black Belt and continues to instruct, teach and inspire.
He is recognised internationally as a leading practitioner of Taekwondo, and regularly travels to Chicago, home of Grand Master Han Min Kyo, to learn more about the art of Taekwondo. His two sons also teach in the Brisbane centres.
The discipline and confidence that our students learn through studying Taekwondo carries over into their personal and professional lives.
Students realise they can achieve their goals through adopting the successful principles of Taekwondo of courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirit.
